Skinny Banana Breakfast Shake with Almond Milk and Chia
This shake has two super food - Almond Milk and Chia Seeds. Chia Seeds certainly has created lot of vibe in past few years. But I also consider almond milk a super food. Almond milk is made with ground almonds and is a great substitute for dairy milk. Yes, its is Vegan and so is this shake.
Whats better than a vegan, healthy and nutritious shake for breakfast?
I don't just like almond milk as dairy substitute! It has good nutrient value, a delicious silky taste and far less calories than regular milk. Since its not an animal product, there are no hormones used as well.
It is important that you buy almond milk unsweetened (organic highly recommended) or make it at home. I know making almond milk at home will be a bit of work. But once you taste the one made at home, you will not spend money on store bought cartons. Also, homemade almond milk will have NO preservatives or artificial sweeteners.
Follow three simple steps to make almond milk at home. Soak 1 cup almonds in distilled water overnight. In the morning, grind almonds with purified water in a blender. Strain the mix using double-lined muslin cloth (or cheese cloth). I often re-grind the almond meal left after straining with cup of water to extract all flavor possible. But this it totally up to you.
Homemade almond milk will stay good in refrigerator for 3-4 days. So if you look at it now, you can make fresh milk over the weekend and then use it for at-least 3 days in a week. Isn't it lucrative? Are you going to try it this weekend? And, I promise I will post about making almond milk at home with steps pictures next time I make it.
Other than Calcium, both almond milk and banana are high source of potassium. Also, almond milk has less protein than regular diary milk. Great news for folks with animal protein allergies!! Almond milk digest relatively fast!!
You know I am big fan of Chia Seeds. This time when I bought Chia Seeds, I further researched about its benefits. I was amazed to find that Chia Seeds also have anti-inflammatory proprieties. The vital fats in chia seeds help heel the inflammations. Well, this gives me another reason to have'em more in my diet.
If you wonder how to include'em in your daily diet. Just add chia seeds in plain water and sip it whole day. This will not only keep you relatively full but will also help you get omega-3s.
Today, I combined two of my delicious and healthy finds - almond milk and chia seeds with banana to make this nutritious and keep-full-longer breakfast shake. My skinny way to eat good breakfast with lot of nutrients.
Hope you will like it too!! And do try making almond milk at home. Go get some chia seeds, banana and make this skinny shake for breakfast tomorrow!
