Red Kidney Beans in tangy tomato gravy are perfect enjoyed with plain or Jerra (Cumin) basmati rice. This easy to cook recipe can be served for lunch or dinner.

1. Rinse and soak Red beans overnight. Boil beans in the same water till beans are tender. (20-30 minutes Or pressure Cook for 10 minutes)2. Heat oil in pan, add cumin seeds. when these start sputtering, add onion and fry till light brown in color (4-5 minutes). Now, add ginger, garlic, green chillies. Fry for 2 minutes. Add turmeric and red cilli powder and fry for a minute. Additional Notes: For best results, mix turmeric and red chilli podwer in 1 tbsp water and then add to the onion mixture.

3. Add pureed tomatoes and cook till oil separates (about 5-6 minutes). Pour cooked mixture in boiled beans and simmer on low heat for 5-7 minutes. (Or Pressure cook for 5 minutes.) Adjust salt/pepper to taste. Additional Notes: Add bolied half cup of beans in the fried mixture and then smash with spatula to blend it in. (Alternativly, you can use blender to blend half cup beans and then mix in the fried mixture) This improves the consistency of gravy.4. Garnish it with some chopped coriander/parsley leaves and green chillies (if you like a bit heat). Serve it hot with accompaniments suggested.
